Activist Petros Ashenafi and other participants said the protest, held within heavy police presence, was successful.
The Ethiopian government has said that so far 8000 Ethiopians have been repatriated from Saudi Arabia. Although ESAT phoned, Dr. Tewodros Adhanom, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ethiopia, to get his responses regarding the numbers and the situations, he had said that he was in a meeting and the information was available on the State Television, ETV.
Although there are over 20,000 Ethiopians in Saudi Arabia who are voluntarily waiting to be deported, Saudi Arabia’s King Abdullah’s new orders for the intensification of the crackdown on migrant workers, is feared to cause another predicament on Ethiopian migrant workers living in different cities.
Information received from the Ethiopian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) states that there are at least 180 thousand undocumented Ethiopian immigrants living in Saudi Arabia.
ESAT has learnt that protests opposing the actions of the Saudi securities and people on Ethiopian immigrants and calling for the perpetrators to be taken accountable will continue in the coming days.
Accordingly, protest will be held outside the Saudi Embassy in Berlin, Germany on November 21, 2013. Esat news november 12 ,2013
